Museo del Acero

Client: Douglas Welch Design Associates Ltd, Vancouver, BC

Event: Museo del Acero

Date: June 2007

Location: Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico

Lighting Featured: 417 x iCove MX, 200 x iColor QL, 6 x ColorBlast 12 Powercore, 11 x sPDS60, 11 x Data Enabler, 2 x M2K Performance, 6 x Martin Atomic 3000 strobes, 1 x 48CH ETC Dimmer, 5 x Cue Server (for automated playback)

Highlights: LED lighting technology is used in this fixed installation and is programmed to help demonstrate the steel-making capabilities of the original Blast Furnace No. 3, El Horno.  The restored facility is now a spectacular educational facility which dominates the skyline and highlights the steel-making history of Monterrey, Mexico.

VIVID Lighting Solutions was engaged to program lighting in support of a seven minute, 50 second educational video documentary describing the process of the steel smelting furnace.  Then a two minute, 25 second music piece was composed and the same lighting was programmed to create a sound and light spectacle for all to enjoy.  Philip Guhl, co-founder of VIVID Lighting Solutions and Douglas Welch, designer and founder of Douglas Welch Designs in Vancouver, spent hundreds of hours programming at night while being eaten alive by huge Mexican mosquitoes.  The result was a marvelous sound and light show that we are very proud of.

Everything was done to your normal high standard of excellence and on or ahead of schedule. Thanks very much for all of your efforts!
